Selling the Old Couch

One day a group of children decided they wanted to make some money. After a long time they decided to sell their old classroom couch on TradeMe. Each of the children wrote an advertisement and voted on the best.

After a few weeks they got a horrible email from TradeMe saying the couch didn't sell. The children were so disappointed when they found out. They decided to try and sell their old couch another way.

One of the children called Rick came up with fixing the couch up a bit since it was quite tattered. The rest of the class agreed.
So the next day they walked down to a small shop selling various types of fabrics. They bought a beautiful green material with pale yellow and pink flowers that looked just the same as the original couch fabric.

It took hours fixing up the couch, but the children enjoyed sewing up the holes since they didn't have to do actual work although they were a school. When they'd finished the couch looked great. The children wished that they could keep it at school.

They wondered where to sell it. Then one of the children said that one of her friend's was having a garage sale. Everyone was delighted. They rang the friend's mother to ask if they could sell their old couch at the garage sale. In reply they got a yes!

The next week they got an email saying the couch had sold for thirty dollars. The children were so happy to find that it had finally sold, for a lot more than one dollar!

An Amazing Sale

It was a cold winter's day. As the rain poured down, a group of kids were thinking about the class trip at the end of term. Suddenly one of them realised that they didn't have enough money to go because of the rise in GST. One of them had an idea.
"Why don't we sell the couch in the cloakroom?"
That's a great idea," said one of the kids.

So that day the kids put the couch on TradeMe with a description about it.

As each day went past, more and more people were viewing the couch, but nobody was bidding on it. After a week the kids received an email saying that it didn't sell, not even for a dollar.

The next day the kids decided to fix the couch so it might sell. So they worked for hours fixing the couch, making it look better.
"Hey, isn't one of our friends selling lots of stuff in a garage sale today?" asked one of the kids.
"I'll go and check," said another kid, hopping on his bike and pedaling away fast.

After 10 minutes he came back on his bike smiling.
"He is," he said with joy.
So they wheeled the couch on some skateboards to the friend's house.

The next day the friend called to say that it didn't sell! So they decided to give the couch to the school fair. With each half hour that went past the kids would check and see if it had sold. Hours went past and people still wouldn't buy the couch.

It was the end of the fair and the kids sat on the couch and watched time go by. Suddenly a big man came over. He spoke in a deep voice.
"Can I buy that couch? How much?" he asked.
The kids jumped up.
"Really!!" they asked.
"Yeah. $100," the man said.
The kids were jumping with joy singing, 'Deal, deal, deal, deal!"
They were now able to go on the school trip after all.

Skating Demonstration

On Monday at lunchtime the whole school came to the hall for a demonstration of inline skating and sports on rollerblades like speed skating and uni hockey. The eighth best skater in the world came in and some famous hockey players did some cool tricks like twirls, spins and all kinds of other things. My opinion is that it was really cool and that they should come again next year.

In-Line Skating

Last week the whole school rushed into the hall at lunch to see four skaters talk about what they do and why they were here. Artyom got chosen to go up and put a pair of speed skates on and try to skate around in them. One girl/lady came up and did a few spins and twirls that were very impressive. Then one of the boys/men came up and showed us an ice hockey stick and everybody got to feel how light it was. He also could flip the ice hockey stick without the hockey puck falling off, but he said that about ten out of one hundred people could in New Zealand that he had met. At the end Artyom came back up and showed us how much he improved. At first Artyom kept on falling over and everybody was laughing.

Sleepover

Sleepover

We were in the car going to my friend’s house for a sleepover. It was going to be so cool and fun. We were going to do heaps of stuff at his house. We parked outside their house and leaped out of the car and raced to the door and rang the bell. Ding Dong the bell rang, then my friend swung the door open.

“Hi,” I said.
“Come in, “said his mum.
My friend and I raced up the steps and into his room. We were in there for 2 hours playing lego and top trumps.
Later we came in the kitchen and got a snack from the pantry and asked his mum if we could go to the school and she said, “Yes”. We walked to the school and played ball tag in the playground. It got boring playing ball tag so we went back home.

The time when we got back it was 6 o’clock so we sat down and watched a movie called ‘Happy Feet’. After the movie we had some dinner then we went to bed and read.

In the morning we woke up and went on the PS2. We had French toast and it was so nice that we hat to go back for seconds. Then we had to go outside and play. At 2 o’clock I had to go home. The last thing we did was to take shots at goal.

After that my mum was there so I had to go home. That was so much fun. Next time he will come to my house.

Nanny Piggins and the Wicked Plan

This extremely hilarious book is great for children aged eight to twelve. It is a book about a very funny flying pig that is a nanny to three children with a horribly mean, grumpy dad called Mr.Green. His children's names are Michael,Samantha and Derek.
Nanny Piggins has a really fat brother who is a bear. He loves honey and is Russian.
Join the five of them as they adventure the world and miss school (a lot).
I think it is really enjoyable and funny.

The Zoo Sleepover

It was Friday afternoon and the bell had rung for the end of school and me and my Friends were all jumping about screaming.Mrs Gusterson dismissed us. My mum picked me up and we went home packed my bag,had dinner and left to go to the zoo.On the way there we saw Mr Riely walking past so we picked him up. We were nearly there and Mum was having trouble finding a park. So I asked mum if I could jump out of the car, get my bag and run to my friends. She said yes and so I did. Mum parked the car. She came out and I kissed her goodbye. Mum left and I played tag with my friends. Me and my friends were shouting, screaming and jumping. Shanon, the man who was in charge of the key, the zoo and taking us on the night tour, came to talk to Mr Riely and and Mrs Gusterson. Then he told us he was staying here too. He asked us if we could follow him to the back of the zoo. He opened the door and we all walked in. We walked to our camp site. You could run from one side of the room to the other in only 1minute. We dumped our bags and all our stuff on the floor. We got our mattresses and put out our sleeping bags and pillows. That took us about 10-15 minutes. After that we got told the emergency exits. Then we went on a spooky night tour. We were all shivering and quivering like mad. We were lead in the cave and we had to tip toe all the way to the end of the cave. We all got back about 9:00 or 9:30 and got a hot chocolate with 2 biscuits. My hands were really cold. We went to bed at 12 o'clock. We had competitions of who could go to bed the fastest. Olivia won! I fell asleep eventually. That morning we woke up and had breakfast and cake and went home.

Spider Bite Review

My little brother lay in the bottom of the basket with his head slumped sideways. I took a closer look. Jordan's face was blue... that was the back of an awesome book called Spider Bite. When Sam Fox's twin brothers, Harry and Jordan, are carried off in a runaway hot-air balloon, Sam tries to save them-only to end up trapped himself! What starts as a joy-ride turns into a life-and-death struggle when Jordan is bitten by the worlds most venomous spider the Sydney-Funnel-Web spider!
Will Sam be able to land the balloon in time to save his brother? 25 chapters of action-packed problems such as, Kodiak Bear (second biggest man-eater on four legs), Komodo Dragon, Lion, Spider, wires with 30 000 volts of electric, three huge trucks, a 747 Jumbo Jet and so on.
Read all the books of EXTREME ADVENTURES by Justin D'ath.
My favourite part of the book.
"HARRY!" I yelled at the top of my voice . "CLIMB UP AND TURN THE GAS OFF!"
"There's a spider on me!"he said.
"CAN'T YOU BRUSH IT OFF!" I asked "HARRY IT'S ONLY A....." I stopped short because I remembered something. Didn't the red-haired woman say a spider had bitten the pilot and made him UNCONSCIOUS!? There was only one spider with a bite that bad... The Sydney-Funnel-Web Spider.
It's a great book.

Homework at Makara Peak

Two days ago, James, Artyom and I drove to Makara Peak ( a mountain biking park). We rode up Koru, a trail that goes up Makara Peak to the skills area and that was when I had an epic crash!!

There was a huge slope and three ramps. One was a metre high, another half a metre and the last one was quarter of a metre high. I was at the top of the slope and everybody was watching. I took off, jammed my brakes on for five seconds, then let go of my brakes altogether and whosh I zoomed off the small ramp. Thump! I landed. I was going so fast my vision as a blur. I was zooming towards the second jump and I couldn't make up my mind. I went over the side and slipped. I jumped off my bike and commando rolled off my bike and stood up without a graze.

We rode a few more trails and then went back home.

The Revenge of Captain Purple Kelp

Captain Cannibal was known far and wide for eating human beings. Just by the sound of her name, everyone who heard it would shiver uncontrollably. At the moment, she was in the Himalayas searching for the treasure called the Rainbow Jewels. The Rainbow Jewels were all the colours of the rainbow.
She didn't know this but another pirate captain by the name of Purple Kelp was following her every movement. Cannibal knew that Purple Kelp wanted revenge on her because Cannibal had eaten half of her crew but Cannibal didn't know that Purple Kelp was here right now. Captain Purple Kelp knew the way to the Rainbow Jewels so she decided to plan a surprise for Cannibal. She stole the jewels and hid them away in her ship. Purple Kelp shouted at her crew:
"Ahoy, m'hearties! It's time to get our revenge on Cannibal. Keep thy treasure safe. Stay at the ship. If I don't come back, hoist the anchor and sail off to safety with the treasure."
When Cannibal arrived, she was tackled by a pirate but she just bit the pirate and he jumped off, screaming. Purple Kelp landed on her head and started attacking her. Cannibal was furious. She tried to bite, kick or scratch Purple Kelp but her attempts were futile.
Purple Kelp attacked Cannibal until she fell senseless. Purple Kelp threw Cannibal into the flames since she was such a nuisance. Cannibal was never heard of again. Purple Kelp ad her crew were now very rich. They never needed to go looking for gold ever again, but of course they did continue to look for gold.

Pirates Took Over Room 7

On Monday the 19th of April Room 6 and 7 had a pirate day. The pirate day was for the inquiry, pod thinking. First Rooms 6 and 7 did individual activities, Room 7 did a long treasure hunt around the entire school.
After we had all had morning tea we all did a little bit of maths and just before lunch, Room 7 quietly walked over to Room 6 for a pirate party. Room 6 was full of delicious food! There were some donuts, muffins, strawberries with chocolate sauce and lots of chocolate coated biscuits. After lunch the two rooms played a game called 'Pass the Parrot (it was so much fun.) As more people got out it became much harder for the people who were still in!
A few minutes later the two classes ran down to the field to play a few more games. The first game we played was a game where you had to steal some gold on the opponents ship and then take it back to your own ship without being tagged, but if you were tagged you had to sit down until someone from your team came to save you.
The last games we played were where the teachers would throw a water bomb in the air in a certain area. If it was coming towards you, you shouted "mine," then you caught it and you won! Unfortunately no one won, but I sure did have fun. Then we played a game called 'Captains Coming.' It's pretty simple all you have to do is listen then do what the caller says.
I think everyone had a lot of fun doing the pirate day. I really hope that we get to do something as fun as that again!

Pirate Day

Yesterday (Monday 19 April) was the first day of term. To get us into our new topic - The Value Of Money - we had a Pirate day. Everyone in Rooms 6 and 7 (except Mr. Riley) dressed up as a scurvy dog. There was a great variety of costumes ranging from black eye patches and red bandannas to big ebony boots and white shirts.

The first thing we did was the shipmate booty hunt based on The Amazing Race. My team (Chloe, Helen and I) were the first to check in, so we were first to leave. Most clues were easy to find and rather easy to follow. The tasks included blowing up balloons and tying them to chairs, shooting balls into a hoop and looking at a picture then finding the place in the school it depicted.

After maths we joined Room 6 in their classroom for a Pirate party. We played a fun game of Pass the Parrot, then got on to eating the delicious grub that Room 6 had provided. There were ship's biscuits (chocolate digestives), eel egg rings (donuts with sprinkles), fish fingers (chocolate fingers) and apple cake to ward off the scurvy.

During the afternoon we played pirate games on the bottom field. The games we played were Rob the Pirate Ship (sea dog version of Bank Robbery), Catch the Egg with water balloons, Catch a Cannonball (catching water bombs) and Pirates and Parrots.

All this left me yearning for my bottle of rum (water) and wishing my voyage round the Seven Seas would never end.

Yo-ho-ho!

Welcome to our room 7 blog. This will develop as we go throughout the year.
I want everyone to be actively involved in adding comments and items to the blog.
If you have a particular interest you might like to add that to our blog so that other members of the class can read it and add a comment.
